Read me...

I realise that 2009 passed and I didn't post once about the books which P was reading to me at bed time. The last read I think I mentioned was Mary Shelley's Frankenstein in November '08 which we followed with L. Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz. On from there came the following, not 100% in the correct order and possibly missing a title or two:

Bedtime read

Not long ago I mentioned that our next bedtime read was going to be The Wizard of Oz, but once we'd finished The Long Goodbye we detoured to a different classic... Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

It's a fine read!

Our new bedtime read is The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler, from this omnibus Penguin edition, which includes two other Philip Marlowe greats, The Big Sleep and Farewell My Lovely. I am loving it.

The 1973 film, directed by Robert Altman, is one of our favs... gotta love Elliott Gould.

P's new bedtime read is Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. It has such a perfect atmosphere...

I know the Hitchcock film very well... but, the book can't be beat!

Read Me...

P's current bed time reading is Grimm's Fairy Tales. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm are best known to me for these tales, but in a much softer and child friendly version... This is a complete unabridged book, and the stories are unpolished compared with how I remember the adaptations read to me in childhood.

I'm really enjoying these dark, often harsh, stories in their original state... or at least, as much of them as I hear before falling asleep!

P is currently reading me to sleep to Classic Victorian and Edwardian Ghost Stories... selected by Rex Collings, published by Wordsworth Classics and available for the princely sum of £1.50. Perfect!

Obsession...

For what seems like quite some time, I've been waiting to get my hands on the grey dotty bedlinen from Cath Kidston. I managed to hobble my way to the Marylebone store on Sunday with P and we are now the proud owners of these super soft and cozy sheets...

I'm really pleased with our new sheets, they're lovely quality and look cute with our hand crochet grey and white blanket, which was a wedding gift to us from P's talented aunty Joan. Once the blanket was finished, she attached one of our wedding labels...
