Irish Oatmeal

I'm not one for New Year's resolutions. In the run up to the end of the year I often think about setting some resolutions for the coming twelve months but they never materialise.

In an effort to be good to myself, I have decided that my weekend breakfast should contain something delicious and nutritious though, so yesterday picked up some McCann's steel cut Irish oatmeal.

Perhaps not the best time of year for blueberries, but I couldn't resist.

It helps that the tin is nice too! I keep my washing up brushes in one and it looks lovely!

Karen, where did you get it from? I am desperate to find good oatmeal and unfortunately my supermarket only does rolled oats which I have been eating every day for years, oatmeal is so much nicer. I got this one from US before strangely enough. Also, what is your cooking method?

Lisa, yes, the tin is fabulous!

Aga, I got the oatmeal in Waitrose (4.99 or 5.99 a tin). It's really good. I followed the pack instructions 1 cup of oatmeal into 3 cups of rapid boiling water, stir well and simmer for 30 minutes (hence weekend treat - I don't have 3 minutes spare in the week let alone 30!). Just added maple syrup and blueberries. Simple!

PS it did make more than two of us could eat, so I'm halving the quantities next week...

That looks delicious! I've been thinking about porridge too. It's worth getting some just for the tin.
