Red Velvet Cake

Yesterday afternoon, I took a trip to Portobello Road, and whilst there I popped in to the excellent Hummingbird Bakery.

My reason was to pick up two slices of their Red Velvet Cake... it's a firm favourite with us. P and I chose this for our wedding cake, back in December, and it went down an absolute treat with everyone... the only problem being that on the day I didn't really get to have as much as I'd have liked.

  2. I have yet to taste a proper red velvet cake...every slice I have ever sampled has been dry and uninspiring. This looks like it could change my mind.

  3. Red velvet is my favorite cake. I sneak to the cupcake spot around town sometimes just to get 1 and not have to share!!

  4. Kate, yes, I think that originally this cake was dyed with beetroot --http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_velvet_cake

Mrs.French, lovely of you to visit read me... sorry to hear of the sub-standard red velvet cake action you've experienced. Hummingbird's is really delicious...

Krissy, clearly you have great taste... & everyone needs a sneaky treat from time to time! x

  5. I'm fascinated by the red velvet cake-never tried it but it sounds so decadent. Maybe I'll have a whirl at making one for my birthday.

  6. Hello fellow Londoner.

I hope you don't mind but I "followed" you here from a comment you left on simply breakfast's blog and saw that you had a thing for red velvet cake.

This cake was featured on (possibly) my favourite food blog and you can read it here:

    I hope I guessed correctly!

    Regards
